elvis point to vim in slackware

Alright I searched the forums up and down and have yet to find how to point elvis to vim. I googled this to with no results. Maybe I am searching for the wrong thing. Anyway, I really hate elvis and am trying to use vim instead. I am running slack 10.0.

thanks for the help.

why do you want to point elvis to vim? Why not just use 'vim <file you want to edit>' and forget about elvis?

The command vi is actually a symbolic link to elvis. Once you have installed vim, it is then simple to:

Code:
rm /usr/bin/vi
ln -s /usr/bin/vim /usr/bin/vi
Now when you want to edit a file, simply type in "vi file.txt", and it will be opened in vim like you want

Or ln -fs /usr/bin/vim /usr/bin/vi which saves having to use rm /usr/bin/vi first.

Red face

yes, we all need text processors that play tetris. That's productive... now where's that rolling eyes icon.
