Alright I searched the forums up and down and have yet to find how to point elvis to vim. I googled this to with no results. Maybe I am searching for the wrong thing. Anyway, I really hate elvis and am trying to use vim instead. I am running slack 10.0.
The command vi is actually a symbolic link to elvis. Once you have installed vim, it is then simple to:
Code:
rm /usr/bin/vi
ln -s /usr/bin/vim /usr/bin/vi
Now when you want to edit a file, simply type in "vi file.txt", and it will be opened in vim like you want
--Ian
iam so glad i found your answer, it really solved my problem i had with slackware 13.1, i installed vim but slackware refused to run vim,it just ran vi no matter what i put in etc/profile.
