E-Mail Server

I'm trying to setup an e-mail server for a corporate network. I've all but given up on cyrus-imapd(I can't get it to authenticate for the life of me) so I'm moving on to just plain pop3 + smtp access. What I'm wondering is, is there a method that I can add users that only have e-mail access without adding them to the full system? And also how could they change their passwords from a windows machine, I'm not about to teach 50 people how to ssh into a machine just to change their password.

I'm using sendmail + ipop3d BTW.

most distro's will have a 'popusers' user type that are email only (and samba). look in the samba docs or email server howto's for more details http://www.linuxdoc.org/
