Question Directory access via groups

I administered Novell servers for 6 years before before trying to convert to Linux for it's flexibility. I have a kind of a newbie question though.

In Novell multiple groups can have different rights to a single directory. In Linux I need to find a way to assign different rights to a directory based on groups in a similar manner to Novell. It seems like I can only assign rights to one group for each directory. How can I make this more like Novell?

You'll probably want to look into ACL for Linux, which gives you more control over permissions of files and directories.
