Desktop Icons

I was on some website that was showing something called Litestep, which is some kind of shell replacement for Windows. IT has some pretty neat stuff if you check it out.

Anyway, I saw some themes on there that people made that have no icons for items on the desktop. It just had a file name displayed, and I was wondering if you can do that on Linux desktops.

I would have thought to. The only thing that springs to mind is TWM, but that does sometimes have icons...

I was searching around, and the only thing I can figure is to edit the desktop file itself to show no icon w for each item... or maytbe delete the icons themselves.

My main concern though would be whether or not the system would burp or not.

Any ideas?
