Question Desktop Icons??

How do I create new icons on my desktop, delete other icons for unsed programs, and set these icons to load by default when DSL loads?

Never mind. I figured out the answer to my own question. If anyone else is looking for this information I was able to change the desktop icons by going to the /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop folder. This folder is hidden by default and in order to see it you have to type ls -a. In this folder there are two files per icon. One is the link file (.lnk) and the other is the .gif image that the icon uses. Use nEdit to open the link file and make the required changes for your new application you want to create an icon for. For example: I made an icon for Opera by opening the dillo.lnk file and making these changes

Original link file:
1. table Icon
2. Type: Program
3. Caption: Dillo
4. Command: dillo
5. Icon: /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop/dillo.gif
6. X: 115
7. Y: 270
8. end
9.
10.

Changed link file:
1. table Icon
2. Type: Program
3. Caption: Opera
4. Command: opera
5. Icon: /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop/opera.gif
6. X: 315
7. Y: 270
8. end
9.
10.

Save this file as opera.lnk in the /home/damnsmall/.xtdesktop folder and make sure you put a small opera.gif file also in that folder.

Hi

I tried doing what you said but there is no .xtdesktop folder in my home/davidk directory (i did dir -a in the console to check).

Any ideas? (I'm using Mandrake 9.2)

Right click on your desktop and go to "create new" and make what you want

Assuming you use KDE of course.

Hey, thanks for posting that mike400hp. I have found it quite useful, and appreciate you posting that specific bit of knowledge for all to see and perhaps find later when they need it.
Before I saw your post I was just hiding all of my icons behind my slit on my fluxbox desktop!
