Checksum errors and Fun with System Halts
This is driving me nuts. I am running a Pentium 4 (just over a year old) and have run into a problem that I can't seem to figure out. I partitioned my HD and set my Red Hat 7.2 partition as the boot partition. Now, this worked fine for several months, I was using the grub boot loader as well. However, one sunny morning I went to boot up and got a BIOS ROM checksum error, and that was as far as it went, I couldn't even access the BIOS anymore. It would not even get so far as the boot loader. So I made up a Linux boot disk (boot.img) and ran that. Now I can get to the Red Hat menu. However, it loads initrd.img and vmlinuz with no problems but after that it gives me a crc error and -- System Halt. I can't, for the life of me, figure out what's going on. My battery is fine too, it was the first thing I checked. Is my HD toast? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance!
