System:
Sony Vaio P4 1.7ghz, 768 mb ram - new Maxtor 7200 40gig HD
dual booting with grub to: default RH9 and XP Pro

after approx 10-15 min sometimes less, RH9 locks up and completly halts my system (my scroll and num lock light blink) and nothing works, mouse freezes, music stops, everything, I thought it was the new .9 kernel RH released, so I reverted back to .8 (original) and still the problem persists.

sometimes I can go for hours or days with nothing, but most of the time it freezes.

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments ..... please....

huh? its not a laptop? probably not (7200 rpm hd) well:
I had a similar problem with my old laptop which hanged completly because of my ram was toast (same thing happened, lights blinking and all !
For the light thats blinking check you manual and se what it means. It might be a hardware issue, at least that was the case for me.

Of course I should have started out by askin or assuming: does this happen in Xp?

no its not a laptop and no it doesn't ever happen under xp.... xp runs flawless, and now makes me wonder why I wanna switch so bad to redhat 9.....


there has to be an answer to this, I dont have a manual if someone knows where I can get the right page for this type of problem in an online manual please point me there if possible.

uhum? strange, well the laptop thing doesnt really matter anyway except for the fact that they brake more often!

dont know your model type so... anyone else got a guess (dont even own a sony but the blinking sounds like a support issue... or am i wrong?
