cdrw/dvd combo + xine

Alright....so here is my problem. I have a fujitsu laptop with a combo drive. I installed xine, made the appropriate etc/modules.conf entries for dma and also hdparm d1 /dev/hdc to enable dma, but when i run xine-check i get a message that says i havent enabled dma?? also another problem is that i cannot figure out how to isntall the x11 stuff for my ati rage mobility video card. It says that it does not support yuv overlays. So what i am thinking is that maybe the dvd side of the combo drive is not hdc, and maybe the cd-rom is hdc? does this make sense? I am using redhat 8.0.
Maybe do i need to make a lilo entry to enable scsi for my dvd and let the cd-rw be hdc? or the other way around.
I have no clue, i am lost.
Thank you

To find out whether or not dma is on type hdparm -d /dev/hdc with no number following the "d". This simply reports the current state of your disc. This will confirm for you if dma is on or not. If hdparm says it's on and xine says it's off then there's something writing with xine most likely.

I know nothing about ati cards but I can tell you your CD/DVD drive is not separated in two. It's ALL /dev/hdc (assuming that's the correct device).

To enable SCSI emulation you have to load the ide-scsi module and put a line saying:
Code:
append="/dev/hdc=ide-scsi"
In your lilo.conf and rerun lilo. Your CD/DVD drive will no longer be called /dev/hdc but /dev/sr0 (or /dev/scd0) after emulation.
