Excuse my ignorance, but last time I checked I believe CDex was a Windows-only application?

If you're looking for Linux stuff (be it software or information), a great place to start searching is Google Linux.

cdex is based on cdparanoia but cdex is a windows application!!!
try grip or ripperX, they both give clean rip (they use cdparanoia too) and you'll be able to configure the encoding part very easily after installing the corresponding codecs...

Don't know for ripperX, but grip surely does work with FAAC, even with its new tagging switches, because the developer implementing them also uses grip... Another CD ripper with FAAC support would be xmcd that has been updated to the last version of FAAC with MP4 tagging, too. See these Wiki pages on Audiocoding.com:

http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/wiki/?page=FAAC
http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/w...or+Linux%2FBSD

By the way, CDex also works with the command line version of FAAC.
