Looking for a good mp3 encoder to change my 128 mp3 files to 192 or 256. I am using KDE and i prefer one that is gui. There are so many out there i kinda got lost when doing my google research. Any suggestions on a really good mp3 encoder?
Well there mp3's i already have on my harddrive so i dont need to rip them from a cd. They are in mp3 format but at 128. I want to clean up the sound and convert them to either 192 or 256.

There may be software that does it, but I highly doubt you'd gain better quality by converting MP3 files with higher bitrate. The files compressed at 128 Kbps already lost more information than the ones compressed at 192 or higher Kbps. Converting them at higher bitrate will not regain the lost information.

I hope I'm wrong for your sake, though.
mp3s, like jpegs are lossy formats. Every time that you save a file in that format you get further degradation, with higher bit rates just less so. Thus converting them to higher bitrate will worsen the quality. I'm pretty sure there is no technique to repair low quality mp3s.
