Red face bah, help needed

Okay, I've run redhat7.2 since september of last year without even looking at windows, yesterday however i decided to look upon VMWare, so i pulled out another harddrive and stuck windowsME on it. To my surprise it worked perfectly well, seemingly faster than windows runs on its own..
However i can't seem to configure a virtual network to use my virtualmachine to access the internet, ive tried for hours and now its starting to irritate me.
Can anyone who has experience in this subject please reply
I run redhat linux7.2 and have windows ME in the virtual machine
My network connection is cable, via a physical NIC card.

What version of VMWare are you using? What network configuration did you choose?

When I first installed it I had to read through this (twice).

I created a virtual subnet inside my machine and assigned Windows (2k) the proper ip, subnet mask, etc. Worked like a charm.

*Note - I'm *not* using Samba, therefore I have no file sharing between my vpc and linux.

Lemme know.

VMWare workstation 3.0
Im not sure how to properly configure windows to work with any of the network configurations, or how to properly configure linux.
i read the vmware documents and have tried a few different network configurations in windows on NAT, bridge and host-only.
any in depth help you can provide would be appreaciated.
