Bah, sound issues.

I find myself having to continously run sndconfig to get my sound working - about 10 times in a row, and sometimes that doesn't work. I figure it is configed, but something is obviously blocking the soundcard or something. Is there any way to "unblock" it or something so I can get everything to work? I believe my soundcard is an Intel i810 AC87 if that helps...

to kill all applications blocking a device you can use the command "fuser -k /dev/dsp" (replace /dev/dsp by whatever device is blocked)

Are you running off the live CD? If so you should try switching to the ALSA sound system. You can do this by adding a boot parameter at startup. See:

http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes

The 2.6 kernel comes with ALSA built-in, and support for some newer sound chips seems better. Sndconfig is the ancient thing that Redhat introduced back when getting sound to work in linux at all was a novelty.
