Hi
For defaults Windowmaker looks in these 2 paths for back-
grounds
/usr/X11R6/share/WindowMaker/Backgrounds
/home/yourname/Gnustep/Library/WindowMaker/Backgrounds

to select one right click desktop, choose from the pop up menu;

Session; Window Maker; (Appearance? Looks?, mine says
uiterlijk dutch); Background; Bitmaps; Scaled or Tiled, then the
bitmaps, you put it the path, should show up. (dont know if i
translated al the choices right)

i never used Esetroot, so maybe try that first, it looks a lot more efficient

good luck

All the tools that set background work fine
Esetroot
bsetbg
bsetroot
They can be a part of other managers like this is a case with Esetroot (not hard to guess it comes with Enlightenment)

So if you use any of these (Esetroot, etc..) you need to add them to your .xinitrc before the window manager is executed (or after depending on the WM, try both and see which one works) For example this is my .xinitrc :
exec Esetroot /Files/Pics/026.jpg &
exec bbkeys &
exec root-tail -g 75x10+570+0 /var/log/messages,green,red'ALERT' &
exec gkrellm &
exec xscreensaver -no-splash &
exec blackbox

I use Esetroot becaue then i can have transparent Eterms, not sure if thats possible with other background tools.
Anyway hope that helps
