I've installed SUSE 9.3 On my Averatec 3250 w/o any trouble.
Actually....
I've put 9.3 on two 3250's, and the same issue arose on both. Immediately after installation there were conflicts w/ the sound cards. The conflict resolved itself on reboot, however. So, after rebooting, all you need to do is un-mute the mixer in order to hear someting.
The 3250 has the Ralink rt2500 chipset for wlan, which is supported out of the box in Suse 9.3. I am able to associate w/ 128bit WEP, and am assigned an IP via DHCP. As I recall, Yast does not automatically set it for DHCP on install. So, run Yast, choose the wlan card, and tell it to get its address from DHCP.

peculiar problem
have any of you 3250 users had ANY problems with cd's not being able to install properly,
i don't know if it is a factory defect OR if it is the dvdRW getting so hot that it can't read correctly, but i can't not install ANY distro without critical errors. including the Ubuntu install disc that they send to you, not a home burned cd. it comes up with packages unable to be retreived. right now i have a slackware 10.1 install up dual booted with the factory XP, but it's install was awful, it was able to install just enough so that i could text based copy a package from cd one by one, so as not to have to many errors, and install it, and even then, with errors, rough rough rough.

Hmmm. Thats rough.
Try a few things out:
1) check the install media before you install it. It could be corrupted. You can do this at several stages... a) before you write the disk, check the MD5 sum provided with the download. b) After Burning the disk, verify it. c) Boot to disk and run the media check option (if provided)
2) try a web based installation. I know SUSE offers a web based install, you can check to see if another distro does as well. Typically this will involve a minimal boot CD/floppy disks, high speed internet, and the address of the distro server/mirror.
3)Check that your CD/DVD drive is not defective. If so, call averatec immediately. (Do a google search for a CD tool or utility, that'll probably turn up something)
good luck!
