Suse 9.1 using Vesa on Averatec 3200

Hey guys. Earlier I had a problem with Suse where it would load the Via driver for my video card. The screen went black because the guys developing the Via driver doesn't have support for my Averatec 3200 laptop yet. So I solved this problem by making Suse use the Vesa generic driver instead. Now it works almost perfectly.

My problem know is trying to get the text and everything else as clear as possible while using the Vesa driver. Whenever I load up my machine, it prompts me that I didn't define my x and y definitions for the video which may cause text and other things to be blurry. Being that's the case, I want to set the x and y so that I can have clarity in text. I don't know what values I should put for these if any at all.

For anyone who has done this already for their laptop or Averatec 3200, please let me know what you did to get the driver to display everything as clear as possible. Thanks in advance!

Wink

I receintly put Arch Linux on my Averatec 3200. I also used the generic vesa driver. I don't recall setting any X and Y's. I had very poor text clarity on 800 x 600, but switching to 1024 x 768 on 24bpp gives me very clear video. I used xf86config and selected the vesa driver with the non-interface SVGA (pretty sure it was selection 7) and used a horizontal range of 50 - 90 (pretty sure it was option two).

I'm a newb, so I'm not promising a miracle. But that's how I set up my X Server, and it works beautifully (although nothing else does yet...)

If you need more specific info, I'll dig in to my /etc/X11/XF86Config for you and let you know specifics.
