Unhappy Averatec 3250 w/Fedora 4 Sound issues

Installed Fedora Core 4 on Averatec laptop, stumbling my way through its installation... managed to get wireless working - still unable to get sound to work, and have been unable to find a "how to" online. I understand that I should try to use the alsa drivers, but have not been able to figure out how to install them on Fedora 4, which seems to have a rather unique setup to other distros, and to Fedoras < 4.

Code:
cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [V8235 ]: VIA8233 - VIA 8235
                     VIA 8235 with VIA1612A at 0xdc00, irq 10
1 [modem ]: VIA82XX-MODEM - VIA 82XX modem
                     VIA 82XX modem at 0xe000, irq 10

Any ideas? Is there some instructions out there i've missed?
