amd64 clock problem

Hi!

I have gentoo running on an amd64 system (a hp pavilion zv6000 laptop) and there is a problem with the clock. For example, a video file will be played too fast and a double click requires the user to be on amphetamines.

Thank you very much for your help!

Pippo

Pure guess, but maybe there is an interrupt conflict with the timer/clock. Try 'cat /proc/interrupts' to see if anything is sharing with the timer or rtc (real time clock).

Have you tried booting with noapic as a kernel parameter on the command line? That seems to be a common reply for all the HP/Compaq 64 bit line like the one you have, the Presario V2000z and so on

Thank you very much!

/proc/interrupts seems normal.

I booted the kernel with the noapic option and it solved all the problems! I did not try it before because, when I was using Debian (before I installed Gentoo), I had lots of apic error messages I never saw with Gentoo and using the noapic option prevented a few things to work. But now this option solved all the problems I was experiencing. There are a few things that do not work (the most obvious being the dhcp client) but I can do without.

Maybe with the next kernel...

Thank you very much!

Glad to be of help

But I don't understand one thing. What exactly do you mean

There are a few things that do not work (the most obvious being the dhcp client) but I can
do without.

The DHCP client doesn't work? Could you elaborate on that? I think it can be solved too (though don't know if I can ;-) )

What else problems are you facing?

Regards

Hari

I thought the dhcp cient was not working. But, in fact, even when I configure manually eth0, I have no network.
