Question A linux compatible webcam?

Hi there,

I´m looking for a webcam for my PC, but I want one that is compatible with Linux. I´ve searched many web sites looking for comparatives, information, etc. without success. I´ve heard that some Logitech and Creative webcams are "Linux Supported", but with help from third-party drivers or applications. Nowadays there are many USB webcams (instead of parallel ones, that claim to have better Linux support), but I would like to hear some advice before buying one. Any ideas? Has someone buyed a good webcam that works well with Linux?

Thanks for your help!

FP

My USB Logitech quikcam express worked. After the install I turned off USB support and dont use it anymore so I cant give you much info.

But it did work after installing Mandrake and RedHat 7.2.

Unhappy About the webcam again...

Thanks for your replies. I´ve found a webcam that I think will work under linux. It´s a QuickCam 3000 Pro. Searching the web, I´ve found some drivers too, but I haven´t played with the kernel or new modules. I don´t know how to recompile the kernel (sounds really scary) and so on. I´m a little afraid of breaking things.

Any ideas or advice? Thanks!
