Install GnomeMeeting (you might have to install some additional GNOME files if it isnt your default desktop). It will allow you to video conference with your friends

gaim-vv is a hacked gaim that support webcams and a little more. Apparently it's all going to eventually be backported to the stable aim tree but for now this is your best working option

This can be done but would require that the host site uploads the pictures from the webcam on to an internet server. The pictures can then be seen via a browser. The following link describes how to do this on a Debian system but I am sure there are other articles for different distros;

gaim-vv works over the Yahoo protocol. Sounds like the best solutions thus far.

You'll need to post the exact error message. I don't know if Lycoris comes with compilers or anyhting installed but the correct process it
Code:
./configure
make
su
[password]
make install

Which is this, gnomemeeting or gaim-vv? Either way, it looks like ./configure failed, most likely because of missing dependencies. Both require 3 or 4 big libraries. I think gaim-vv required linphone-im, libj2k, and a third one which i forgot. They have links to all three on the gaim-vv website i think.
