How do i create shortcuts on the Gnome desktop? I try dragging the icons in the menus to the desktop where it looks like a piece of paper and i leave it on the desktop but nothing happens...
it is as though a piece of paper-like icon follows me but never stays on the desktop-it just vanishes into thin air as if i had never done anything with it in the first place...
also with gnome i notice that for each of the original icons on the desk there is also another icon (folder-like in appearance) that seems to shadow the icon that i want. how do i get rid of these double icons?
