if by 3d you mean opengl then try and run a program called glxgears, if you can see 3 gears rotating then opengl is working, if you get an error then it isnt, glxinfo can give you more information.

Thanks for the reply. Its working. I am getting the following output.
1543 frames in 5.0 seconds = 308.600 FPS
1601 frames in 5.0 seconds = 320.200 FPS
1514 frames in 5.0 seconds = 302.800 FPS
1628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 325.600 FPS
1628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 325.600 FPS
1514 frames in 5.0 seconds = 302.800 FPS
1614 frames in 5.0 seconds = 322.800 FPS
1514 frames in 5.0 seconds = 302.800 FPS
1614 frames in 5.0 seconds = 322.800 FPS
1628 frames in 5.0 seconds = 325.600 FPS
1600 frames in 5.0 seconds = 320.000 FPS
1514 frames in 5.0 seconds = 302.800 FPS

Is the values normal for "Nvidia GeForce2 MX400" card?

run 'glxinfo'

that should tell you whether or not your hardware acceleration is being utilized.
