I have exhausted the limits of my knowledge and have searched everywhere on the web for days. Can anyone tell me how to start from scratch with fonts in KDE?

I have a pretty solid LFS system built, full audio/video/network functionality and I am just happy as a clam. The only issue is that SOME fonts show up HUGE. I have tried moving things around in XF86Config, I have edited the ope/kde/share/config/kdm/Xservers file to reflect -75dpi, I have even removed certain fonts thinking they were causing the problem.

For instance, I installed GAIM with basically default options (with a --prefix=/usr/local option) and when I fire it up the fonts are literally 2 inches high and NO modification to the fonts in GAIM will change that.

Any ideas? Anyone see this behavior or have a hint?

I just don't even know where to look now.

Hmmm, I am using fluxserver as my base also. I just thought of that.

I don't really think of this as an LFS issue, so I'm going to move it to Linux - General.

I'd say look at the Gnome Control Center to see if you can adjust the fonts in there (GAIM is a Gnome/GTK application, not based anything on KDE's configurations).

Thanks! I will check that out if it happens again. I figured if I couldn't answer the question myself then I didn't learn as much as I set out to.

rm -rf /opt/kde*

rm -rf /opt/gnome*

rm -rf /usr/X*

rm -rf ~/.[xXkg]*

and started over.

Strange, the problem is now fixed. I hve reinstalled a new window manager -- sawfish -- and reinstalled KDE AND reinstalled XFree86.

This didn't fix the problem.

So I sat here and dorked with every single line of the XF86Config file.

FOUND IT!!!!

Right here was the error, look at the line commented out.

I commented that out and all fonts returned to normal. I have no answers as I am not entirely sure what that means now. I thought it was the MMxMM dimension of your viewable area but it seems I may be wrong.

Anyhow that fixed it, thanks for poking in guys
