Im new with the ln command, and latley i've been useing it to make a bunch of launch programs from my fluxbox menu. I was hoping to add a Warcraft III launch button from there as well.
The only problem I have is I can't run Warcraft III with a single command like "firefox". I have to cd into the Warcraft III directory and type
Code:
cedega war3.exe -opengl
Therefore I can't edit the config for the fluxbox menu to cd into something then run command, it has to be a single word command (like "firefox").
So basically I dont know where to create the symlink for war3.exe so cedega will recognize it. Also, if there is an easier way to run cedega from command line, please let me know thanks.
Actually I ran into another problem. When I installed Warcraft III it happen to install under root directory
Code:
/root/TransGaming_Drive/Warcraft\ III/war3.exe
I'm running under a regular user so I dont have permission to run anything from thos directories. Since I'm the only one who uses this computer is there a way to give me access to thos directories without having to sign under root? Or is there another way around this dilemma?
Well, since you are the only one using the computer (or at least only one 'user' uses the computer) you could try:
$ su
# cd /
# chown balkman: root (obviously change 'balkman' for whatever your user name is)
This will mean that your user is now the owner of the directory /root
I'm not sure what the security implications of this are, I don't think there are any since this is simply a directory, but some security guru will correct that if necessary.
that chown worked and gave me permission to use the root directory. Although when i ran WC from the fluxbox menu it says the following error message like a thousand times and then wc just closes.
Code:
0003:: Bad stuff: client ignore setting select events for 0x9004cf44 to 1
I fixed this problem by making sure both the /root/.transgaming/config and ~/.trangaming/config were exactly the same.
Now I no longer get the error message but when i run WC, it tries for about 5 seconds then just closes. But when I su to root user and run the same command
I really think it's best (if you have enough space) to reinstall it to the correct place (if possible - I'm sure there are some guides for setting up WC)
You can then just shove across your save games to the correct place :)
On a side note, have you played WC I / II ? What did you think of WC III in comparison?
P.S. You could try and use Sudo, man sudo for more info, but it can be set up to let you run certain commands as root, maybe this can be used?
