quake3 freezes

I've already discovered why it freezes when i enter a game, the problem is that my soundcard is integrated and the module used by alsa is intel8x0, when the game try to start 'two devices' (one for the sound, one for the music) the game freezes... now... i found only two solutions:
1) run quake3 on artsd, but audio is really really bad... choppy sounds
2) remove music/files from pak0.pk3... this works very good... the problem is that i can't enter on online servers because they think i cheat...
setting music volume to 0 don't resolve the problem....someone can help me? thanks

Try to pass parameters to artsd, like buffers lenght or size.

no need to remove the maps from pk3 ,just setting the music level to 0 works for me (I know I'm late with the answer but this is for the others who have this problem and read this forum)
