OpenGL GLX TDFX - somthing isnt right

after about 3 days of hard hacking (for me) ive got this far:

from my xorg logs

Code:
(II) TDFX(0): [DRI] installation complete
(==) TDFX(0): Direct rendering enabled
(==) RandR enabled
BUT THEN!

Code:
bash-2.05b$ glxgears
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x25
....
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x42
1546 frames in 5.0 seconds = 309.200 FPS
^thats a LOT better then the 104 i was getting beafore
but get this:

Code:
bash-2.05b$ glxinfo |grep rendering
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x25
.....
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x42
direct rendering: No
Finially, what this all ammounts to:

Code:
bash-2.05b$ quake3
Q3 1.32b linux-i386 Nov 14 2002
...
...loading libGL.so.1: Initializing OpenGL display
...
setting mode 3: 640 480
Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.2
XF86DGA Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized
XFree86-VidModeExtension Activated at 1024x768
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x25
.....
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x42
Using 4/4/4 Color bits, 16 depth, 0 stencil display.
GL_RENDERER: Mesa GLX Indirect
...
Sys_Error: GLimp_Init() - could not load OpenGL subsystem
i THINK theres a porblem somwhere between OpenGL and DRI but im not sure what.
im going out now but ill check back later

Please help! i need to kill my flatmates in glorious 3d

What is your graphics card, and what are your driver settings?

Some graphics cards do not support 3D acceleration in all modes (eg. the old 3dfx Voodoo 3 3500 TV card didn't support acceleration in 32-bit colour modes). Without knowing more about your setup, that's about all I can suggest just now.
