Now that I have LFS going, I want to go graphic and to this end I have been doing some experimenting. I first tried to install the 4.2.0 version of XFree86 and was getting compile problems:
$SRC/xc/programs/xkbcomp/xkbparse.y
... unexpected seperator ... "|"
This error was encountered by bison.
But this was an experiment and not really BLFS at all. Anybody has any clues about it, I would appreciated it. But ...
I went ahead and installed XFree86 4.3.0 as per the BLFS book instructions except I didn't change the kernel. When I tested the .new config file, I got the following error:
TDFX(0) Cannot open /dev/mem
Is this due to something that should have been fixed during a recompile of the kernel or what? In the instructions there are two kernel related operations, one before the compile of XFree86 and one after. If I have to do the first one over again, do I have to recompile XFree86 again?
I am not too disappointed at this point, it was exciting to see XFree86 working at all.
Is there something I can do to get 4.2.0 going? I would like to try ATI's drivers with it and they do not support 4.3.0.
Any and all tips and clues would be appreciated.
