I got the ATI drivers running and everything seemed fine, I ran the command "Doom3" from a terminal window (I could only get the X display to operate if I was in XFCE), now I get the begining of the game where it boots and says it's initialzing everything, but that's all I see. The last thing that's on the screen is the background and the "Initializing Menus", then the screen goes compleatly black and I can hear the sound of the heartbeat that's supposed to show the beating heart amongst the machinery with the ID stamped on it, but I don't, just a blank/black screen. the machine seems to lock after that's done as I can't get out of it via the ESC key or anything.
I am running Slack 11 on a 2.4 kernel with 786 Megs of RAM (Former Windows machine :P) and a 20 gig harddrive that isn't even 1/2 full.
I've come under the assumption that it may be 2 things, #1, I'm running 64 bit video drivers on a 32 bit system (64 was all that ATI offered, desptie the links) and #2, I'm trying to run the game(s)(tried running Quake4, with the same results) from inside the termnial, since I don't know how to start X-windows without invoking XFCE via the 'startx' command. I thought that I might be able to do a 'xterm quake4-demo' but that failed.
