Can I contact you via email?
If you are referring to me - yeah, I don't mind. I enjoy helping people with linux problems. I really advise you to try Slackware. I had many problems with the other distros I have tried- SuSe, Redhat, Fedora, as I said before Slack is the s@@t . I am willing to help you as much as you need, if you try it. But keep in mind, I am not very profficient in linux myself, I tried it for the first time, I think back in 1998. I have been using Linux exclusively, since September last year. I know how you feel. Remember- linux is not difficult. Most of the people are just too used to Windows. Good luck with your OS of choice, even if it's windows, and don't be afraid to contact me by email whenever you need. That is if you were referring to me.

I couldn't tell from your messages whether you installed the 'kernel-sources' package that matches the kernel you are using. You seemed to be installing different kernels instead.

There is also an option to install the nvidia-installer partition, which should contain more detailed instructions.

On earlier versions of Mandrake, there was a problem because there wasn't a build link.
For examples on my SuSE laptop (I'm not running Mandrake currently, but I had)

/lib/modules/2.6.8-24.14-default/build
-> /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24.14-obj/x86_64/default

The NVidia installation assumes that this link is present.

One thing to try is simply 'urpmi kernel-source' as root.
If you have more than one kernel-source package available, you will be presented with options.

Also, use the easyurpmi website to set-up an ftp-mirror as an update source. Then you should have better luck finding the kernel-source package you need using the graphical installer in MCC.

backagain with slackware 10.1

I have now installed slackware 10.1. Cannot start X server although I tried xconfig a few times Error message is "no screens found"

How did you configure nividia videocard? I have geforce fx 5200. Let me first begin with configuring the xserver. After I succeed I will move to network issues.

My pc config is

P4 with 845GL chipset
256 MB DDRAM
128Mb Nvidia Geforce Fx 5200
Generic Soft56k Modem
ADSL broadband modem
+other multimedia goodies

System works OK with windows XP

back again ha?

go to windblows, download the nvidia driver. go back to linux, install it and do the changes in xorg. see what happens, BTW I would suggest you start a new thread in slackware, cause people right now think the thread has to do with UT. Do you know how to access windblows partition from linux?
