No Lynx !!!!!!

I just installed Redhat 9 on a new machine and it doesnt seem to have Lynx installed.

Is there a replacement text based browser for those of us that only use terminal access.

If not where can I find a install of Lynx?

It is definitely there, but not installed by default. Go to the package manager and look under internet (I think - I'm at work and not in front of RH9). Look down the list of extra packages, Lynx is there, select and install it.

I suggest installing Midnight Commander for easy command line stuff.

An Introduction to the Midnight Commander

Method one:

1. Insert a CD and mount it, browse to the rpm directory and locate lynx-<version>.rpm and cd to that directory

It will be on one of the three install CDs, so hunt it down

2. Give the command:

rpm -Uvh lynx*

3. Hunt down any depencencies mentioned and install them first.

Method two:

Download and install the two rpms for apt4rpm and install with

rpm -Uvh apt*

Command:

apt-get update
apt-get install lynx.
