URGENT: Up2date broken in RHEL 3.0?

Hi all,

I've been researching this issue for the past couple of days and still haven't really turned up anything useful.

Our primary web server is currently running Enterprise Linux AS 3.0.

Just recently I noticed that updates weren't being applied correctly as scheduled via the Red Hat Network subscription.

When I attempted to run a manual update, I recieved the following message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/sbin/up2date", line 11, in ?
import rpm
ImportError: No module named rpm

We're currently running up2date-4.2.57-2, which to the best of my knowledge is the latest build.

Has anyone encountered this issue before?

Some help would be *greatly* appreciated.

Cheers.

We're running RH EL AS 3.0 on 6 servers and haven't seen issues with up2date.

On having a look at up2date found it is a python script. It is calling a module named "rpm" at the line you're seeing the error on.

Not having done anything with python I did a man python which led me to just type "python" from command line. In session opened typed help then modules then rpm. This gave me the location of the rpm module as:
/usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/rpmmodule.so

You may wish to verify this is on your system since the error appears to be complaining about the rpm module.

cksum for the module on my server returned:
2570289387 93568

It is chmod'ed 755 and owned/grouped root/root.
