Graphics from remote client

Hi,

I am running an application in java that uses graphics. If the application is started from the server (host machine) the time to generate the graphics in < 1 s.

If I open an X terminal from a remote client and start the application, the graphics generation takes a very long time > 50 s.

I have investigated and found the problem is due to the DISPLAY variable which is of the client in the second case.

Can I set the DISPLAY variable to be taken from the server even if the application is started from the client remote machine.

Regards

Ajit

You could, but then graphics would be rendered on the server's display, and the client would be unable to see them.

Hi Matir,

Thanks for the reply. The application would be running in the server and would store in a file repository. It does matter if client does not see them. Could you let me the process to implement it.

If the client does not need to see the display, just do "DISPLAY=:0 ./myprogram" or similar. This will have graphical output on the first X session on the server.
