which distro for AMD 64?

Hi all,
I have recently upgraded my PC to AMD 64 3000+, ASUS A8NVM mobo.
I had been using Red Hat Linux on my previous Intel PIII 800 MHz comp. I wanted to try out Slackware... but it seems slackware does not have a 64 bit version for the distro.
Could you suggest something? Ubuntu and Debian are on my mind right now.

TIA

I suspect that everyone will post the distro that they use...

I certianly shall

Have you tried Gentoo, it's fantastic.

What do you use your computer for? How much do you want to play around with it?

If you want to install and use something fast, I found 64-bit Ubuntu to be pretty nice. You can also try the Live CD out before installing it.

My 64-bit distro of choice is Gentoo though. It takes a lot of setup time, but it is quick and easy to maintain once it's up and running.

I have used Slamd64, Suse 10, Debian, and Ubuntu. Suse and Ubuntu may be easiest, but I feel that Debian and Slamd64 give more flexibility. That is my 2 cents.

Slamd64, although i found it to be somewhat error filled because many a time when i go to access files and move them i would get memory errors. Could be because of my computer or how Slamd64 is built, still though it is definetly a try it once and see how you like it distro.

Any comments for Ubuntu Dapper Flight 6 ?
I guess i'll go for Ubuntu, if it does not pose many problems with hardware.

Gentoo is the way to go on AMD64 systems. I've used Fedora and Ubuntu as well. I'll never go back.

Is it easy to operate? I´m looking a linux for programing, mp3, internet downlaods, wifi, using gps programs. The time i tried gentoo, installation was a pain in the cabuss... perhaps newer versions arent so.

The newest gentoo install cds include a visual installer, akin to what anaconda for fedora is like, but a lot of people are having trouble with it. If your seriously into programming, I'd try installing the Gentoo way, you'll learn a lot about linux that way. If you need help installing, come back here. There are a lot of knowledgeable gentoo users here.

Gentoo have something like a package manager? something to update or download packages from internet? That is another point that really interest me.
