I tryed many Linux distributions gentoo, suse, mandrake, vlos.........etc but i would love to see how Debian is set up cuz gentoo kicks ass but the flags and all that stuff is not for me. so my question is knoppix 4 worth the install and how does it compare to the real debian. the only reason why i dont want to install debian is cuz of its complex installation. Thanks in advance !
I've just tried newly cooked Knoppix DVD! It has everything AND the kitchen sink! Solid, fast! I like it. It's multilanguage too. Good tool for rescue boxes as well
Debian is in no-way a complex installation with the introduction of the Debian-Installer. The D-I is available with Sarge(stable) and newer... so you should have no problem with it.
It's a good system, I think you'd like it. The only problems I've ever had with Debian is that it seems to be a little slow. But it's also compiled for i386 which makes it more stable, rather than being compiled for 686, Pentium4, Athlon-XP, etc.. like Gentoo..
Package management is excellent and so i spackage selection. I generally recommend the 'testing' release.. it's generally more than stable enough for desktop use...
Here's a question for you guys. I'm posting this form KNOPPIX 4.0.1 DVD right now. I wish to keep it on my hard drive to dual boot with XP. Now, Can someone tell me how to do this? I believe I have made a 'Persistent KNOPPIX Disk Image'. What does that mean? I've made it 256MB because I had no idea what it was doing....Help?
