I think it is possible to install Knoppix on a hard disk, I wouldn't know the procedure off the top of my head tho. I'm pretty sure I saw a number of threads on this in the Debian forum (Knoppix is Debian based) so you might want to look there.

Depends on the version. I know the version 4 and abvove has an icon on the desktop for clicking HD-installer. Earlier versions have a script called "knoppix-installer". You just drop into a Bash shell, type
su
knoppix-installer
Many distros based on Knoppix but have no obvious installer also answer the above call.

knoppix is a great live distro. But even the designer suggests looking at a real Debian distribution before installing knoppix to hard drive (and I agree with that from having done both). Try Debian Sarge. Either two CDROMs or two DVDs. Best distro.
