How to update Fedora Core 1

I need to update a FC1 server to change on the correct date for the new Daylight Savings Time. Does anyone have an RPM or know of a mirror that may exist? I read some threads earlier and I feel like I know the answer. Is it possible to change the time on that date without it changing back? If so, that would mean that I would have to change it 4 times a year instead of 2? Thanks for any help.

Download the tzdata-2007a-1.noarch.rpm from Fedora Development;

http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu...fc7.noarch.rpm

You do not need to nor can you install tzdata-2007a-1.noarch.rpm package, just use rpm2cpio and cpio and copy the extracted /usr/share/zoneinfo files to the /usr/share/zoneinfo directory.

rpm2cpio < tzdata-2007a-1.noarch.rpm > tzdata.cpio
cpio -i -d < tzdata.cpio

I downloaded the RPM that you have suggested and ran the commands. How do I need to copy the date into the /usr/share/zoneinfo? My apologies for being a newbie, I am learning one day at a time. Thanks again.

You only need the timezone information for you area, since your from South Georgia the the American timezone info is all you need to copy.

From where the extracted tzdata files are located (the /usr/share/timezone directory as root;

cp -rv America/. /usr/share/timezone/America/*

For the details see; man cp

When done test by; zdump -v /etc/localtime | grep 2007

Hopefully you should see something like;
Code:
/etc/localtime  Sun Mar 11 06:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 01:59:59 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000
/etc/localtime  Sun Mar 11 07:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Mar 11 03:00:00 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
/etc/localtime  Sun Nov  4 05:59:59 2007 UTC = Sun Nov  4 01:59:59 2007 EDT isdst=1 gmtoff=-14400
/etc/localtime  Sun Nov  4 06:00:00 2007 UTC = Sun Nov  4 01:00:00 2007 EST isdst=0 gmtoff=-18000

Why you say you can't install new tzdata rpm on fc1?

Lenard,

Coming late into this thread but I too have the same need to update tzdata on an fc1 system. I see the procedure you outline but can you tell me specifically why you say the following in the above: "... nor can you install tzdata...". I ask because I got some latest and greatest tzdata rpm for e.g., fc8 and was able to install it with plain rpm on my fc1 system. And I looked at the rpm contents vs. a fc1 "native" tzdata rpm and the contents looked to be structured the same (of course fc8 version had more data). This led my to wonder why you said the "nor can you install" comment. Not trying to challenge you here - just curious...

Chris
