Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Just a quick questions here. I installed RH 7.3, then installed the Ximian Desktop. Now when it installs, it replaces the GDM Splash screen (The one that shows GNOME Loading it's components) with the Ximian screen, how do I get the RedHat one back? I looked in /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf ut was unable to find anything. I could change everything except for the spalsh screen. Anyway, there's got to be somewhere I'm not looking, and if someone could let me know I'd appreciate it alot. Thanks in Advance!!
Distribution: Mandrake 9.2 and a couple of RH7.3 Apache servers

not positive on 7.3 because I'm using 8.0 now, but in 8.0 there is a folder called usr/share/pixmaps/splash or usr/shcre/splash (dont remember for sure) but the folder contains the redhat splash image. if you can find that splash folder, it should contain the ximian image and possibly the redhat image. just rename the redhat one to match the gnome one and it will use it instead. If you do happen to find the ximan image, hook me up and send it to me. I assume you have the one with the german sunset on it. That one is way cool compared to the one in RH 8.0.
