I recently installed Ximian Desktop 2 (XD2) on my SuSE 9.0 Professional box, which switches me from KDM to GDM as my graphical login. The problem is that this messes up Xvnc, the one that is running through xinitd. What I get now is a grey screen instead of a nice gui login screen. Now I was able to get it going again, but only after I switched back to KDM, which now I can't use XD2. How can I tell Xvnc to use GDM instead of KDM? Oh, and with this setup there is no ~/.vnc dir, I looked and tried, I also tried to find an xstartup file on my box, but there was none. Any ideas? Thanks.

The fix was to go into the gdmsetup tool as root (gdmsetup) and enable XDMCP. After doing this I get a graphical login via gdm in a vnc session. Now it is not exactly 100% the same as when I login from the console, but it works and that is all I care about right now. The background is still grey, but I have a gnome login box, and after I login everthing looks as you would expect.
