Has anyone got Ximian 2.0 to compile & work?

I have tried it on the Debia sarge, it complies, installs but the installation needs so much more (oaf configuration ..etc. ) that it's impossible without any documentation.
It appears that the good folks at ximian have provided just the bare the source.

So has anyone been able to use Ximian on "non-Novell" distribution, if so can you provide some pointers to the setup .

Thanks

Ximian *what*? Evolution? Gnome desktop? Connector?

The Ubuntu Linux distribution comes with Evolution 2.0.2. Add the apt repositories for Ubuntu to your /etc/apt/sources.list and use your favourite apt frontend to install it.

Hakan,

I tried it, however in synpatic package manager the description of the Evolution2.0Ubuntu shows up as
(dummy) package to help migration from evolution 1.5 to 2.0 .. ditto for the development files.
I guess there is no point installing dummy files, unless you are one :-))

Any other suggestions ?

thanks

Dummy packages fill a very useful purpose and are not dumb at all. Another name for it would be meta-package: It doesn't install any software of itself but it is a set of dependanciies that will install everything you need - installing it will make sure you get everything you need.

Now, you could go on ignoring it or you could just install it.

i have

I have! For the past couple weeks I have been working on putting together ports for CRUX linux usng the Ximian Gnome patch set. How I did it, was I grabbed the src.rpm's off the novell & suse server(s) and used each rpm's spec file as a guide on how to set up each package...

I also did some custom editing and patching in gnome-vfs, control-center, & gnome-panel to get the menu how I wanted it. Which really didn't need to be done, I just preferred the menu to be a little different then the default...

Here's a Screenshot of the Menu, Settings manager (control center), & Nautilus...

Proof that it can be done w/ a little effort...
