removing gnome panels

Hi,

I have Ubuntu 10.04 with gnome.

I can remove the 2 panels from up and bottom to appear at start up using the following command:
gconftool-2 --type=list --list-type=string --set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list '[windowmanager,filemanager]'

What is the config file that I need to manually edit to do the same change?

Please help

Run gconf-editor, navigate through '/desktop/gnome/session/required_components_list' and delete the entry for 'panel'. I do not think that there is a config file with that information in it, it's more of a database.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GConf

Code:
~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/session/required_components/%gconf.xml
I don't think you are supposed to edit those xml files.

That's GNOME for you but this LQ thread is about configuring GNOME (well, er -- actually compiz) by directly editing the config files. It might cause breakage but nothing a good restore or start-from-scratch wouldn't cure!

It may be possible to identify the config file(s) by making the change in the GUI and then looking for the most recently modified files under .gconf. Hey -- no "little devil" smiley on LQ
