Normaly I use Kaffine to play lists of MP3s. Just recently, it stoped working, producing a KDE crash window when a play list is used, but if a single MP3 is right clicked inside Konquer and "Preveiw in Kaffine" is selected it works fine (for that one file). I tryed using XMS (both where bundled with Knoppix) but it just freazes.
I don't think that I did anything to the system between it working and this happening.
Can anyone tell me what to do with this? Or sugest another media player I could try (preferably in the Debian repository, so I can just apt-get it)? I oly used Kaffine becuse it's installed by defualt with Knoppix.
Try starting kaffeine manually from a terminal window. In my SuSe installation, the path is /opt/kde3/bin/kaffeine. So, whatever the path is to the executable on your machine, type it in and press enter. Then try to run a playlist. If it crashes again, you may have errors displayed in the terminal window that will help track down the problem.
I will give amarok a go, but I discovered that Knoppix comes with more MP3 players, and at the moment I'm using juk (which will ocasionaly stop playing for no appent reason, as if the stop button was pressed but dosen't crash). Running Kaffine from the command line produces the super helpful message:"Kaffine has stoped unexpectedly"

Amarok comes installed with Kubuntu but due to Ubuntu not having the rights to various codecs (.m4a etc), they have to be installed manually.
These can be obtained from the Mediubuntu repository.
respected sir,
do you have an Idea how to install tar.gz files to ubuntu or kubuntu . I don't know coz I am new linux user and wants to know linux heartly ????
Using skill dosen't seem to help. I kill it, restart it, play a play list, it crashes.
I'm guessing Amarok is in the Debian repositorys if it comes with K/Ubantu it might even be installed with Knoppix by defualt.
Anyone have any thoughts about why XMS stalls?
