xmms. Chances are that it's already installed in your system. Type xmms at a terminal and see if it's installed. Also, giving more info about what you really are looking for, like a mp3 player as window's winamp or a command line mp3 player would help. Also, telling us which Linux distro you have won't do any harm. It's important because if you have Redhat 8/9, it cannot play mp3 right away, you need to get a plugin first .
Again, as more info we have from ya, the easier to kill many problems with one shot will be
wow..thanks guys..that was faster than i thought.I'm new to linux and am running a dual boot right now so i am going to try what you told me. I am running redhat 9. i've been struggling with this so long i don't even care what type of player it is!..

ok that was exactly what i was missing. Now when i g to play the mp3's it works for a second and then freezes up so i can't close it .
also how did you find that link? i was searching for hours trying to find that?

no. it doesn't give any error messages at all. when i try to play an mp3 it starts for a sec, then just freezes and the only way to close it is to reboot.
if i try to open another session of xmms in run program or terminal, nothing happens, it just hangs. any other suggestions?
