Missing all icons on the top panel

I did couple of CentOS 6.4 installations on VM from the DVD iso with no problem. The last install on actual h/w is missing all the icons from the top panel - updates notification, sound and network icons. When I mouse over the places where icons should be I can see the tooltip messages, but icons are missing. Everything is working, but no icons.

Anyone can help with this problem?

What desktop environment (DE) are you using?
Have you tried a different theme?

Hi Habitual,

Sorry for the delay. I use GNOME. Yes, I tried to change themes - it didn't help.
