This is a little hard to follow. It will help if you use capitals, question marks, etc.

In particular, what does this mean?

??

I assume that you are trying to open a terminal window. In the menus, there should be an entry which says "terminal". Also, you can always get a terminal by typing ctrl-alt-F1 (or--typically--F2 or F3).

I promise you that there is something in the menus which will open a terminal--I'm not sure exactly where in RHEL.

Does this mean that you deleted a profile or configuration file?? I guess that could have screwed up your menus.

Try creating a new user and log in under the new user name.
