Hauppauge Wintv usb 1 and KUbuntu 9.04 not working - driver seems ok??

Hi,

this maybe a common issue with the card but basically I am unable to get anything to work.

First of all I am running KUbuntu 9.04 Juanty 64 bit edition on a 12.1" widescreen HP laptop.

Now it seems that there is a kernel driver for this card as lsusb and dmesg both detect it.

lsusb:
Code:
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0573:4d22 Zoran Co. Personal Media Division (Nogatech) Hauppauge WinTV-USB II (PAL) Model 566
Ok mines not a Wintv usb2 but usb1....

I have uploaded my dmesg.txt

If I run xawtv it defaults to NTSC format then segfaults if I try to change the tv format to PAL as I am in west Europe.

Although under NTSC I get a snowy screen but channel scanning obviously doesn't receive anything.

I have also tried tvtime too of which I get another error, running the command tvtime-scanner:
Code:
Reading configuration from /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml
Reading configuration from /home/kaya/.tvtime/tvtime.xml
Scanning using TV standard PAL.
/home/kaya/.tvtime/stationlist.xml: No existing PAL station list "Custom".

Your capture card driver: USBVision [Hauppauge WinTV USB Pro (PAL I)/6-2/2313]
does not support full size studio-quality images required by tvtime.
This is true for many low-quality webcams. Please select a
different video device for tvtime to use with the command line
    option --device.
Under ls /dev | grep video, video0 and video1 are listed and I have tried both with either app but I'm still not able to get it working.

What could be the problem??

I thought that the Wintv usb1.1 and 2 drivers were now built into the kernel??

I have also discovered:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...p?product=1344
and
https://lists.linux-foundation.org/p...st/004270.html

links, I tried building the driver from the first link into my system but it fails miserably :-(

Can anyone help me at all or do I need to buy the Wintv USB2 card instead??

Many thanks for any responses!

It does seem that you have a relatively old TV card, however it is supposed to be supported in the LINUX kernel according to http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/USBVision_devices

I would think though that you would want a card that supports digital television rather than the older analogue standard?

Yup I do realize that the card is old (should be better for linux) but still under the Vision Devices driver the linuxtv.org site claims that it should be handled as a WinTV USB 1.

Meaning correct drivers!

I know is not digital but in my whole house I only have 1 digital tv and since the card is for my parents who prefer to watch foreign satellite anyway the microwave receiver will be only be stuck into the co-ax input of this tuner. Another words old PAL standard analog tv....

There are some mailing lists on the linuxtv.org site perhaps I might have better luck finding a definitive answer there???

Unless someone else has a very good suggestion??
