Firefox: Where are the mimetype helpers configured?

I wish to gain better control of which helper application is called for each downloaded audio and video mimetype.

I have the "Mimetype Editor 0.2" extension installed. It's window comes up, I can interact with that window, but my input does not effect firefox's behavior. Do you all know what is my problem? If nothing else works can I manually configure the controlling file? What is the name of the file in which this type of configuration data is stored?

The problem I have with <Preferences(options), Download -> View & Edit Actions> is that it does not allow me to add mimetypes.

Maybe I just do not understand.

In the address bar enter
Code:
about:config
You'll have to make some entries like

Code:
audio/x-pn-realaudio user set string /usr/X11R6/bin/realplay
Or some versions of firefox have a preference tab for that

Thank you, teckk. The "about:config" information is exactly what I have been looking for (for the last couple weeks). Without knowing about "about" I did not find this info in the mozilla documentation. Hmmm :-(
