I've just come across John Prine. Discovered by Kris Kristoffersen in 1970 apparently and sounds a bit like early Bob Dylan. I can't believe I wasn't aware of him then. I just downloaded Sweet Revenge - 50 of the best songs I've heard in a long time.
Thanks jamison20000e. I still listen to Benatar quite regularly and it was great seeing they still got it goin' on in 2011. I greatly respect bands and musicians that age well and gain a musical maturity but I have to admit I do tend to prefer the eras where the band/musicians are hungry and just reaching the top of their game. Some bands like The Stones have more than one era like that but most don't.
Here is a version of "Hell is for Children" that not only is of the time when they were just breaking big but the recording makes me feel like I'm front row center which I think is especially appropriate for Stadium Class bands.
I'm also particularly fond of "Promises in the Dark" from that time and even though I guess she hates it, her breakout MTV video "You Better Run" is still pretty damned hawt, but obviously the power of a hit gave them the energy they needed to truly blossom into a bona fide force of nature.
