The Flageolet on the Guqin is incredible. Now easy... I must digest this.

Now that was a real treat... I am familiar with the use of the five tones, five types of instruments both to balance the five elements etc... the 91 harmonics I will need to read up on/check notes... The ones I mentioned were listed in the ancient Classic of Music that Kungfu Tzu (Confucius) studied/taught and helped preserve as well as the I-Ching and Neijing by Huang Di
The harmonics on the Guqin astonish me because I play the guitar, and there you do not have so many at your disposal; at least the “natural flageolet”, done with the left hand only, will not let you play hole complex motives like I heard and saw it in those videos with the Guqin.
Now I venture that an artificial flageolet, done with the picking hand, while a tone is altered with the left, should also be possible on the Guquin, but I have not yet seen it done. This would add the number of all the usual tones of the instrument to the possible harmonics... You slide, you grip the tones, and you play an arbitrary number of harmonics... all at the same time and without bottle-neck, in the same melody, if you want.
The costumes mught be authentic, the music certainly isn't.

The notion of 'authenticity' in music is something of a minefield. It's a topic which comes up quite regularly in ethnomusicological discussions and is even best avoided because it's largely thought of as a myth: music changes over time, absorbs different influences and gets reinterpreted for a variety of different reasons. I would posit that what you're referring to is not necessarily more Westernised versions of traditional Chinese music, but more modernised versions of traditional/folk music, and with folk music [especially folk music, in fact], it becomes even harder to trace authenticity: it might be better to replace the concept with originality, but then we get into further problems of defining the 'origins' of music and musicality.
East Asia is not my region of specialty so I can't comment with any detail on how the linked music compares to other Chinese traditional music, but maybe things like this or this are more along the lines of what you're looking for?

If you lookup the Guqin on YouTube you find everything you want, some stuff you do not want and things you had not imagined, before ... GuqinTube anybody..? 8)
