Veterans

Hi,

I wonder how many Gnu/Linux users are veterans? How do you celebrate?

Here in the U.S. this is veterans day to celebrate our military veterans. Veterans day is celebrated for the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month for the end of the great War(WWI) veterans and we now celebrate for all military veterans on this day.

I am a USAF veteran and served over seas stationed at Yakota AFB, Japan with Vietnam missions from Clark AFB Philippines doing weather recon (clay foot missions, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam) for the Black Bird SR71.

Happy Veterans day!!

I really don't. I'm glad that it is over for me. Made it out with all of my parts.

Air National Guard, 1966-1970. Our unit flew parts to Viet Nam and brought wounded back on a regular basis.

I am a veteran of Balkan Wars.
I celebrate getting terribly drunk once a year. It is not a particular day. I hate all wars.

Yes. Once upon a time. U.S.M.C.

My oldest son sent the two images, below, yesterday morning (Veterans Day):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_Era
Quote:
Vietnam Era is a term used by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to classify veterans of the Vietnam War. Various departments of federal, state and local governments as well as private employers often give Vietnam Era veterans special consideration regarding employment and sometimes assign extra qualifying points.

For VA purposes, in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations Chapter 38 Paragraph 3.2 (f), the Vietnam Era is "The period beginning on February 28, 1961, and ending on May 7, 1975, inclusive, in the case of a veteran who served in the Republic of Vietnam during that period. The period beginning on August 5, 1964, and ending on May 7, 1975, inclusive, in all other cases."[1] The U.S. Congress, U.S. Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs elected to designate those years as such to accord special privileges to all persons who served the country's armed forces during that time.[citation needed] Similar designations have been made for other periods of war.

I celebrated yesterday with the free meals offered from like Dennys , Sonic, and others. Riding my motorcycle before the cold front dropped down here.

They had some festivals at the park also.

I got a free doughnut at the "Hot Now" place yesterday.

I'd prefer to get the Purple Heart that some shipmates and I deserve.

Me, too.

It's sad that this only post from a non-US veteran gets no attention at all.

LQ is a global forum.

There is many veterans from many wars.
There's many types of wars, not only those fought with machines and soldiers.

There's many different types of veterans all around the world.
Remember those.

PS: I wouldn't give a wet cough for free donuts for veterans while my country is suffering from grave socio-economical injustice. Who's fighting that war, who's a veteran of that war?
