Twitter Monetization

"Apply to offer your followers subscriptions of any material, from longform text to hours long video!

Just tap on “Monetization” in settings."
https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1646564065853194241

and:

"For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money.

You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on web (could be better, depending on payment processor).

After first year, iOS & Android fees drop to 15% and we will add a small amount on top of that, depending on volume.

We will also help promote your work. Our goal is to maximize creator prosperity.

At any point, you can leave our platform and take your work with you. Easy in, easy out.

What I get from this is that Musk is flailing.

Perhaps but my understanding is that Musk is a fighter for his companies. I've read that after two successive rocket explosions on the pad he bet every dollar he had and could borrow on the next launch - success. When Tesla 3 was having production problems he slept at the factories for months at a time - success. Twitter may turn out to be a colossal failure but I'm not betting against him. Your link is interesting reading but not convincing, imo.

Speaking of Twitter - What's it worth today? $5,000,000?

Whoever offered $44,000,000 for it seems to have made a monumental error. His behaviour as the "chief twit" has amply justified that title, driven away advertisers, made it's workforce an endangered species, and ruined what doubtful reputation he may have had. To my mind, it's a bit like an alcoholic buying a distillery. Twitter brings out the worst in Musk.

"Rolling out next month, this platform will allow media publishers to charge users on a per article basis with one click.

This enables users who would not sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher per article price for when they want to read an occasional article.

Should be a major win-win for both media orgs & the public."

I get the idea. He paid a fortune for twitter, the advertisers all went away and he's still trying to make money. There's something called "Return On Investment."

However, he has managed to avoid embarrassing himself greatly in the last few weeks. He does have some hundreds of million users. Maybe he should set his office back in Tesla or SpaceX and hire an ad manager? Then he could follow Rule 0 of business management?

Tucker 'Twitter' Carlson

This should be interesting, lol. I will add that even though I'm unabashedly conservative I never watched Carlson with any regularity.

"On this platform, unlike the one-way street of broadcast, people are able to interact, critique and refute whatever is said.

And, of course, anything misleading will get
@CommunityNotes
.

I also want to be clear that we have not signed a deal of any kind whatsoever. Tucker is subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators.

Rewards means subscriptions and advertising revenue share (coming soon), which is a function of how many people subscribe and the advertising views associated with the content.

I hope that many others, particularly from the left, also choose to be content creators on this platform." https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1656079504778092544

Had multiple Twitter burner accounts over the years. Since Tesla-boy took over I jumped ship and now it sounds like I have even less reason to go back. Twitter is a cesspool of hate.

To each their own and not an indictment of your past practices but my opinion is that multiple "burner accounts", usually anonymous, enabled the proliferation of mis-information and bots in the first place.

Not at all, just have an obsession about privacy and I never post anything on social media using my real identity, especially when I am speaking my mind. What is the saying: "A man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask and he will tell you the truth."

A lot of people still use it. Few really care, about who owns it.

Because if they did, they may considering close the account they have. I don't mean somebody on there for a month and then closing it, but longe term users, over several years. They don't care about the negatives only their own interest, business, politics. What ever.
