I'm a firm believer that anyone who believes that they need religion, should have it. I also believe that evangelicals and proselytizers are dangerous, and should be watched very closely.

Most people seem to have an exaggerated sense of self significance, and most religions tend to groom that perspective, preying upon ego to build loyalty. So again, if one needs that, well then...great... have a ball.

I also believe that the philosophy that God put all this here for our wonderment, and created all wildlife for us to hold dominion over, is part naive, and part self abuse.

The reason aliens from other solar systems won't talk to us is because most humans still cling to the superstition of religion. YMMV.

What makes you to think like that? Have you ever met alien? Why for sure aliens don't have religion?

The saying should be: sex, drugs, rock-and-roll and religion!

In time from: sex, drugs, rock-n-roll and religion - only the last remains. You can ask your grandpa.

Actually, igadoter, if it wasn't for sex none of us would be here. Since Rock n Roll is a euphemism for sex it might be that it's so important they had to say it twice. If we substitute the more general "Music" for "rock n roll" that makes sense to me too since I consider Music to be one of the top inventions of mankind. As for "drugs", ideally that includes "medicine" which the lack of also mi8ght mean few if any of us would be here but I don't think the term was meant to be that inclusive originally.

If religion is "all that remains" for you, that's perfectly fine, but some need something more solid like evidence and track record, and that should be fine, too. Unfortunately many organised religions seem to require no alternatives, no choice, at the very least lip service. That's hardly wise nor neighborly, IMHO.

It is very difficult to decide how far serious is this thread. These are very difficult times to talk about religion. We all know that. You know personal view is I am religious person, I am not or just I don't care at all. But people are changing. Some find faith, some looses faith, some not interested satisfied with their everyday life. Some always too busy - or try to be too busy. Don't stop, don't stop. But reality is something which exists no matter what we think or don't think. There is saying that there is no Universe - it is just another Truman show - one big screen around Earth with all these pictures of stars. But screen is very far away - so no one can touch it. So there is Universe or not?

Some people seem to get mad at the idea of biological evolution, "WE DON'T COME FROM APES!"? I agree, we came from single cells and stuff. And, in order for the concept of infinity to be reality then between other planets like Earth there's endless beaches and stuff. Many others now simply say, "that's the way their creators made it?" --Evolution. Irregardless those concepts exist, we're now on machines chatting... the idea of infinity for us is intoxicating but non can let you know for sure until long after they're dead. (and maybe if the future machines work) Repeat loop until anomaly.

My religion, sk8-park-pools. Wish others wren't militaries and borders? (Not that there's free will there!?)

Evolution is just nice story to talk about. Just don't ask for proofs. People claim 4 mln years ago Earth was full of dinosaurs. For what the reason? Well because they found some number of skeletons. Now how someone can reach conclusion from one hundred to millions? It is just total cheat. hey I met these hundred people - so I know everything about the remaining 7.674 billion - it is just absurd. To tell something about one needs representative group. We need thousands of thousands dinosaurs skeletons to claim something reasonable - but they are nowhere to find. The truth is these dinosaurs were puppets of ancient civilization - but not very popular. Huge, troublesome to feed. But some individuals they like it. Nowadays are graveyards for our puppets - so it was the same. People just took care for their beloved puppets once they died.

By the time you've gotten through the eight year doctorate program to fully understand the supercomputer, (&sea, &see, &c,,,) it's evolved both in hard and software...

Even in The Truman Show you could still throw a real rock through the real screen.

I dont' think there is any natural selection for computers. Or software. Even if there is evolution for such things - it is very direct. Just more, more and more. We are reaching the point of human - it is said we use only 10% of brain capacity. I think that in average I very rarely go beyond these 10% of computer power in applications. So we have powerful computers which essentionaly for most time do nothing. Like having house with 40 bed rooms. In each bed room three beds. But most of the time person would sleep only in one room using one the same bed. Something is wrong with how we use computers.

That wouldn't explain so many computer architectures, languages and operating-system-distributions would it? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_pe...the_brain_myth (find 9 other people)

We could try to predict what future computers will be like but that's it.

It is just biblical story about Babel tower. People started to build tower to reach Haven - but the God messed up the language they used - so they started to talk with different languages - couldn't understand each other - and tower was never finished. I think it is quite similar with computers.
